Website Administrator Peter Magnani Jr

The South Plainfield Rescue Squad was established in 1944 and remains staffed strictly by volunteers.  While many surrounding communities in Middlesex, Union, and Somerset counties have begun to use paid EMS, South Plainfield Rescue Squad volunteers remain dedicated, helping to save homeowners and businesses tens of thousands in emergency services each year.  The South Plainfield Rescue Squad never charges for its services.

As of May 1, 2003, we have approximately 52 active members providing 24-hour coverage in the Borough of South Plainfield to approximately 24,000 residence, in addition to hundreds of businesses.  It is believed that the daytime population grows in excess of 85,000 people due to local businesses.  Each riding member volunteers about 75 hours per month for duty and attends a monthly training and meeting.

Last year in 2002, SPRS volunteers answered over 1800 emergency calls for help from homes and businesses throughout the Borough and surrounding communities.

Rescue squad members are either EMT or First Responder certified.  EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) involves approximately 150 classroom, practical, and emergency room observation hours and usually takes about 3 months to complete.  First Responder certification involved 50 hours of training and teaches t basics of first-aid and CPR certification.  All members must be trained in one of the above within a year of joining as well as CPR, Hazardous Materials, and Bloodbornee Pathegens.

Our volunteer squad relies heavily on donations from residents and  businesses to pay for supplies, equipment, insurance, and trainings for all of our members.

Please help support the South Plainfield Rescue Squad by visiting our donation page and learn how your donation helps our organization, and many lives survive.
